While conducting Online Live Class using Join.Me, and I need to select real-time video as profile. However, it seems that the built-in view camera in iMac cannot make any adjustment. So how can I make my profile more professional without adding an external camera?

Solution:

By using an application – iGlasses, it is easy to make adjustments to the setting of the built-in view camera

Tricks:

iGlasses is compatible and integrating into all applications for the iMac is not a problem. It is as easy as selecting another view camera

There is no free alternative for iGlasses on iMac, don’t waste time to find one!

It is definitely worth the one-time charge. Moreover, A free trial period can give more confidence before buying it.

In brief, this app leverages the capabilities of the built-in camera

Config:

iMac 2014

OS X 10.12.1

iGlasses v3.4.8

Subtitle not synchronized with the audio in VLC running on Mac.

Solution:

In VLC, at the top bar, go to Window -> Track Synchronization

Adjust setting of Subtitle Track Synchronization

Tricks:

Most of the suggestions on the web are for VLC under Windows environment, thus they ask you to click Tools -> Track Synchronization, but actually this setting is under Window on the top bar of VLC.

In case subtitle appears later than the audio, then the setting of Subtitle Track Synchronization is a negative value.

Config:

Issue:

Suddenly the iOS apps Watchlater which is supposed to download videos from various video sites including Youtube to device could not download any more. Then install another apps, Ultratube worked for around 2 months, then failed to search any Youtube video, just showing https://youtube.com/devicesupport. What I guess is that the apps connected to Youtube fail due to various reasons. In case it is the intention that Youtube wants to prevent iOS apps to play the videos offline probably due to affecting the hit rates of the videos, then it is a waste of time to search other apps that can download the videos at the moment and fails to achieve it after a minor change of Youtube connection api.

As my iPad has only WiFi but no 3G/4G plan, need to watch videos sometimes offline.

Solution:

Actually there is no other iOS apps I could find to do the download, thus turn to use workaround quite indirectly download the videos from Youtube to my iPad.

Use Python application youtube-dlg which is a cross-platform GUI software for youtube download, and perfectly converts the downloaded video into mp4 format.

Download Youtube videos in my OpenSUSE desktop, then upload them to Google Drive

Use iOS apps AVPlayerHD to access my Google Drive to download the videos to iPad. The beauty of this apps is not just the ability to

download videos from Google Drive, but actually can

stream the video directly from Google Drive, and

organize the local videos into various customizable folders; and

play or stream HD videos smoothly using hardware coding option

Config:

OpenSUSE 13.1

youtube-dlg

AVPlayerHD apps

Drive apps

After duplicating a ZenPhoto theme, just with a change of theme directory name and theme name, the Colorbox feature is gone under the new theme. But actually, there is no difference in the theme files, i.e. the coding are the same.

Solution:

Check the related .php files under the created theme in Option of Colorbox_js plugin

Tricks:

The specific related theme itself has Colorbox feature and .css, and it is not easy to be aware that there are configuration need to the Colorbox_js plugin. Without check appropriate .php file under each theme, the Colorbox will not properly function.

There is a standalone Slideshow plugin providing Colorbox feature, however it is not related to this particular theme that has bundled slideshow feature.

Background:

Photos taken by iPhone have been automatically distributed to varioius devices, Mac and even MS Windows through Photo Stream, but how to get these from my OpenSuse? Mac OSX is supposed to have the ability to enable Windows file share using Samba. Actually, I am not familiar with setting up Windows share in Mac, thus tried to using NFS which is natural to Linux.

Issues:

Where is the folder location of Photo Stream?

How to properly set NFS server in Mac and NFS client in Linux?

Solutions:

Using Finder in Mac OSX is not easy to get the Photo Stream folder. Actually it is located in ~/Library/Application Support/iLifeAssestManagement/assets/sub/

Using NFS Manager for Mac does not help too much, thus using basic skill to modify (if not created yet) /etc/exports. This requires root access with appropriate command in terminal. After each modification of the /etc/exports file, need to run “nfsd restart” to ensure the changes in /etc/exports are applied to NFS server.

Tricks:

The photos are NOT stored in one folder, instead they are each stored in one folder, i.e. there are same amount of folders in ~/Library/Application Support/iLifeAssestManagement/assests/sub/ as the number of photos. Also, the folder names seems to contain no information of the photos.

NFS mount with the owner as 501, but my user id in OpenSuse is 500, thus need to change the permissions of the folders from Library to sub as 755 so as to let user 500 to access the photos. There may be argument why not using VNC client to access Mac. Yes, but it will be better response and no need to kick off one more application in the client while using NFS.

Config:

NFS Server: Mac OSX 10.8.2

NFS Client: OpenSuse 12.2 (x86_64)
